Wine village: Hambach
Hambach's name and history are closely connected with the Kestenburg (derived from the Palatine "Keschde", the chestnut, which grows in great numbers on the slope of the Schlossberg), later also called Maxburg. Situated in an exposed location, Hambach Castle is visible from afar and has entered the history books as the "cradle of democracy".
